For family, therapy & breeding purpose.
We are the only Australian Cobberdog breeder in Belgium, recognised by the MDBA. We chose the prefix 'My Dog', as this basically means the same as my friend, my companion, my soulmate,... 'My Dog' says it all.
Not many things in live are as precious and valuable as a dog. To explain it's worth, humans often compare their dog with a close friend, family or even their child. Although they can't speak, dogs play a major role in people's social live and some communicate even more with their dog(s) than with other people. Dogs are loyal friends, who love and follow us unconditionally. They are empathic and provide physical proximity and emotional support in times of need. Some dogs even help people with practical chores. We can depend on our dog and our dog depends on us. One of the most beautiful relationships in the world, is the relationship between a dog and it's owner.
Having that said, you understand how important we think it is, that every puppy finds that perfect home, with a loving family.
Our policy is to keep things simple and clear. If you think about engaging in a 'My Dog' Cobberdog puppy, the following steps will get you there. Please notice that our main goal is to match every puppy with the most suitable owner, and to provide each family with the puppy they want and need. If we think that a certain combination is not ideal for you or if we doubt about a certain litter/puppy meeting your expectations (f.e. in type of coat, size,...), we will always bring this to discussion and offer options. We want every new combination (puppy/owner) to succeed!
1. READ MORE ABOUT THE COBBERDOG AND OUR BREEDING PROGRAM
Get to know the Australian Cobberdog and get to know us! It may sound obvious, but it's really important to know what kind of dog you're about to sign-up for. It's also important for us to know that you're familiar with the way we work, our breeding program, what we offer you and what we'd like to get in return. Good agreements make good friends. We bundled everything we want you to know, in a 'little' book. You can order this book, read it and decide afterwards if we are/offer what you're looking for. If not, you didn't loose anything and you're not bound to a reservation. By the way: the price of the book includes us offering you further advice about the Australian Cobberdog, working with therapy dogs, your ideal match,... It also gives you the right to make an appointment to meet our dogs, to talk things through and to ask us personal advice, by phone or e-mail, unlimited. The book is written in english, like our website, but will be translated to dutch very soon (just like our website)!
Why we don't give all our advice, time and energy for free? Because we found ourselves stuck behind our desks for at least 2 to 3 hours a day, answering questions about the Cobberdog, helping people decide which dog(breed) would suit them best, explaining why and how we breed and raise puppies,... In the mean time, our family (dogs included) was put aside and seriously neglected. With only 24 hours in one day, it became physically impossible on top. So this is how we do it now; for everyone's sake.
If you're sure you want to put your plan/dream of getting a Cobberdog into practice, you can ask us to keep you up to date about upcoming litters, by returning the application form that you received together with our book. We ask some basic personal information about you, your family,... We don't expect much; we are very normal, down to earth people ourselves ; ) So it's ok to sketch you and your situation, just like it is! We will also ask about your expectations, why you want a Cobberdog and the role of a dog in your life. We don't ask these things because we're curious; we just need as much information as possible, to be able to assign you the right puppy. While on our waiting list, several things can happen. If you find your perfect puppy at another breeder, if your life changes drastically and you decide not to take a puppy after all or if your personal preferences in size, colour,... change a lot, please let us know. On our turn, we will contact you if there's an unexpected vacancy that might suit you.
We have a partnership with Swiss Mountain Cobberdogs, which also means that we share part of our waiting list. If they have an upcoming litter, that will be announced on our website to. They keep one therapy prospect available for belgian/dutch clients. As the puppy has to stay in Switzerland until the age of 15/16 weeks, and starts it's training there, an additional cost of 1.750€ is charged.
3. MAKE AN OFFICIAL RESERVATION FOR A PLANNED LITTER!
Once we planned a certain litter, chose a stud and have an idea of how the puppies will be like, we open an official list for the litter. If you are already on our waiting list, you get priority to sign-up. On average, we foresee one breeding prospect per litter, 2 therapy prospects and 5 pet puppies. We have to make clear though, that a pet puppy is NOT an inferior puppy, AT ALL. A pet puppy is a puppy that does not HAVE TO work and that will be perfectly happy in it's role as a family dog. Our therapy prospects are 'made to serve' and could feel unfulfilled without a job or without being around people all the time. A breeding prospect distinguishes himself from his littermates, by having the (close to) ideal genetic composition, a exterior that meets the breeding standard, the perfect therapy temperament and the Cobberdogs' so-called X-factor. These puppies are rather rare and for breeding purpose only, as it would be a shame to have them castrated. From time to time, we search host families for breeding prospects. If you think you might qualify to give one of our future breeders a home, family, good education and training, feel free to apply!
To secure a place on the list for a specific litter, we ask you to make a deposit of 10% of the purchase price. If nature provides you a puppy, you pay the remaining 90% at the age of 7 weeks, after we tested and assigned all puppies and before they get microchipped and registrated. The puppy is now officially yours and we provide the best care possible, until pick-up!
4. PICK-UP OF YOUR NEW PUPPY AND AFTER SALES SERVICE
In our 'little' book, you can read everything about what's included in the purchase price of your puppy, extra services on demand, what you need to do around the time of puppy's arrival,.... We take our time to guide you through the intense months of preparation on the arrival of your new best friend, and we stay available ever after. We try to minimalize the chance on an unexpected issue, but if something pops-up, we'll do everything that lies within our possibilities to fix it. We provide parenting advice, puppy courses and all sorts of workshops for our clients (without any obligation). We really appreciate staying in touch after we've handed you over a little part of our family.
FAMILY AND FRIEND
We help you to select a puppy out of the litter that can meet your expectations. Matching character, activity level, temperament and drive. We also try to provide your favourite gender and colour, and if possible your 'love at first sight' puppy. We believe that you can't choose your puppy on picture, so we'd like you to meet the litter. We'll take our time to introduce you to all the puppy's and to search the perfect two-way match.
THERAPY AND ASSISTANCE
In our quest for the right male partner, we stick (again) to the 3 C's: character, coat type and constitution. Our aim is to breed working Cobberdogs, servicedogs. Our breeding stock is selected on qualities that distinguish servicedogs from perfect pet dogs. Still, only a few puppies of each litter have what it takes to become that pefect therapy, guidance or assistance dog. If you're interesed in a pre-selected and tested puppy, please make your reservation.
It's important that the Australian Cobberdog keeps developing as a breed. That's why we put effort into the selection of future breeding stock. We think it's important to protect and use all the Cobberdog bloodlines available. When I see excellent, valuable - almost precious - Australian Cobberdogs getting spayed, predestinated when sold to a non-breeder, that's a shame and a big loss for a breed in development. For that reason, we try to keep at least one male and one female per litter available for breeding. Our early selection procedure is based on the 3 C's: character, coat type and constitution. We carefully compare every puppy with the breeding standard and only the best are taken into consideration as breeding stock. They are fully (pre-)tested before the age of 8 weeks and reserved for (future) Australian Cobberdog breeders only.
For some of our breeding prospects, we appeal to host families as 'treasure keepers'. Our hosts families are (semi-)professionals with above average experience in puppy upbringing and education. They provide our puppies with the best care and guidance. They get socialised, obedience trained and prepared for the work as therapy or assistance dog. If they proof to be suitable for the job, they get their last check-ups before breeding a litter. Afterwards, they get adopted for life by their host family or they can be placed as a therapy or assistance dog.
Are you highly committed and able to love, educate and train one of our Cobberdog puppies? Is it your dream to own, and work with, a therapy or emotional support dog? Would you be happy to enjoy our guidance in this process and do you live close enough to make it to our training sessions, every two weeks? Would you love to get the most talented puppy of the litter, without the financial side of it's purchase? Are you OK with the fact that there's a large chance your puppy will be favorited as a breeder one day, for a short period of time? Did you turn this website upside down and inside out? Did you loose your heart to the Cobberdog and do you think we would get along fine? Then I guess we must meet and help each other out!
